1. Not a medical device
Unburn is not intended for use in the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of any disease, injury or disability. It is not registered as a medical device with the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) or with any other regulator, and it has not been reviewed or approved by any regulator, professional body or healthcare provider.
2. Not a substitute for professional advice
The wellbeing scores, PSS-4 and PSS-10 results, stress indices, factor breakdowns and reminders shown by Unburn are informational only. They are computed from data you enter and general wellbeing research — they are not a diagnosis and they cannot see the whole picture of your health.
Always seek the advice of your GP, a qualified mental-health professional or another suitably qualified clinician if you have a concern about your physical or mental health, or before making any decision that could affect your health (including starting or stopping a medication, therapy or lifestyle change).
3. About the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)
Unburn uses the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-4 and PSS-10) developed by Sheldon Cohen and colleagues in 1983. The PSS is a validated research questionnaire that measures the extent to which a person perceives situations in their life as stressful.
It is not a diagnostic tool. A high PSS score does not mean you have a stress-related disorder, and a low score does not mean you are not experiencing stress. Bands (“low”, “moderate”, “high”) are guidance ranges from published research; individual interpretation should be done by a qualified professional.
4. In a crisis, get help immediately
Unburn is not designed to help in an emergency. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, or you are having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please contact one of the following right now:
- UK emergency services: call 999.

5. Individual differences
Everyone is different. Sleep, hydration, movement, meeting load and stress responses vary enormously between people, and the goals suggested by Unburn are based on general adult wellbeing guidance. They may not be appropriate for you if you have a health condition, are pregnant, are recovering from illness or injury, or are otherwise under the care of a healthcare professional. In those cases, please follow your clinician’s advice ahead of anything the App suggests.
6. No warranty of outcomes
We cannot and do not guarantee any particular wellbeing outcome from using Unburn. Your results depend on many factors that are outside the App’s knowledge and outside our control.
